NEW BETHLEHEM — With a teammate bearing down hard on a goal-scoring milestone, senior Ty Carrier nabbed his own Redbank Valley soccer record in Tuesday night’s 8-3 win at home against Kane.
Carrier assisted on two goals while scoring twice himself and passed two former Bulldogs that shared the career assist record. He’s now at 43 helpers, one ahead of Joey Kunselman (2001) and Nathan Zipf (2001) who held the record together for over 20 years.
“It couldn’t have happened to a better kid,” said Bulldogs head coach Ty Scott, whose team improved to 5-2 going into Thursday’s home game with Karns City starting at 5 p.m. “He put a lot of work into getting better. He’s only been playing since his freshman year and he’s the poster child of ‘technique over strength’ with learning to kick a ball correctly.
“Everyone talks about Owen Clouse’s goals, but a lot of his wouldn’t be there if Ty wasn’t feeding him those passes and corners.”
Speaking of Clouse, the senior striker who is already the program’s all-time goal scorer also scored twice to bump his career total to 97, three shy of the century mark. He also had four assists.
Kieran Fricko also scored twice while Grant Shoemaker and Kaden Sturgeon added goals.
The Bulldogs host Punxsutawney Monday and visit West Shamokin Tuesday before hosting Brookville next Thursday.
